I wrote a song several years ago on the occasion of my parish's re-dedication in November of 2003. It was a gift for the members of my choir as it was dedicated to them.
The title of the song is "To Share the Feast you Spread" that was intended to be a Communion hymn. I am in the process of planning for our 50th Jubilee which is slated for January 2010 at our Fiesta Mass. Thought I'd share the lyrics of my song with you all.
To Share the Feast you Spread
by: Lawrence Borja, ASCAP
(Refrain)
We are called from distant lands to share the feast you spread,
for here you give your life to us: body from this bread.
Here your blood is symbol of your love freely poured.
We come to taste the goodness of Christ the Risen Lord.
1. Wheat for bread, wine to share yielded from our land.
Here your servant consecrates the labor of our hands.
Sacramental presence worthy of all praise.
Here we stand in your dwelling place.
2. Here we find rest in your from our grief and fear,
and we stand with hopeful hearts while knowing you are near.
Once a stranger to us, but we now proclaim:
“Lord of all, God beyond all names.”
3. Bread of Life, Cup of Joy blessed from simple gifts;
hungry people longing for the love that can give.
Now we feel your presence and we hear your call.
Be our breath, Jesus Lord of all.
People once with empty hearts are filled with truth and grace.
Make us true disciples as we sow your seed.
Come provide for our every need.
